Drive down our little boreen, through the canopy of trees to the gates of Teach Mo Chroi'. Our boreen, Irish for tiny one-lane road, is just 1/4 mile off N84 and midway between Castlebar and Ballinrobe Towns. Only a 18 minute drive into Westport, a bustling seaside town on the Atlantic's Clew Bay, an hour to Galway City, and 25 minutes to Cong Village, home to Ashford Castle and The Quiet Man Cottage.
Teach Mo Chroi' is a large family friendly home with many desirable features to it's credit; providing excellent accommodations to large groups for reunions, anniversaries, and special family gatherings. Take advantage of our dual electric current. We offer USA 110 outlets as well as the Standard Irish 220volts, so you can use most USA devices, even CPAP machines, without a separate transformer.
The house is in an ideal location for touring the West of Ireland. With several options only a short drive away and others no more than 2 hours, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the 4 nearby courses while thrill seekers and outdoorsmen can explore Westport House and the Killary Adventure Center with its unique challenges. An invigorated walking climb up St. Patrick's Mountain (known locally as "The Reek" or Croagh Patrick) is enjoyed by all ages and rewarded with a spectacular view at the top. With 4 nearby Lakes, known as Lough(s), Carra, Corrib, Mask, and Nafooey, Clew Bay off the Atlantic Coast, and local streams and rivers even a seasoned fisherman is sure to be pleased. There are several Blue Flag beaches within an hour of the house. Learn to "Fly a Hawk" at Ireland's only Falconry School, enjoy an Equestrian experience, or the Luxurious High Tea all at Ashford Castle.
If a relaxing holiday is more your style, our boreen serves as a walking route to many of the locals because its quiet and rarely traveled. Wander down its winding path and you're likely to encounter our nearest neighbors the horses, donkeys and recently 2 Alpacas in the surrounding fields, most known to enjoy a carrot or apple from a friendly passerby. In spring the fields are alive with the sights and sounds of baby lambs, a vision to behold for children and adults alike. For the film buff, select from our extensive Irish DVD collection or take advantage of our wireless internet for your laptop or smartphone.
There's no shortage of space to keep the kids busy. A portion of the front garden is a soccer/gaelic football field complete with 2 netted goals. Additionally, there's a paved area for basketball with 2 backboards, child's swing seats, and a patio complete with furniture and a BBQ Grill (May-Sept). Everything you'll need to have a memorable family vacation.
